I am always searching for bible verses to teach kids about who God really is. As I talk to my kids about God, I hope they begin to see how wonderful He is.
I want to teach my children to rely on God first, before anything else. To seek His wisdom when they are making decisions and to have a relationship with him that is unconditional. So first, I need to model this to them by sharing how I rely on God and seek his wisdom. I also want to share who God is with them so they can begin to understand His unfailing love for us.
I try to have a short bible time with my kids every morning . We often read our favorite Bible resource ever, “The Jesus Storybook Bible,” by Sally Lloyd-Jones. I really can’t say enough about this book. My kids love it and they ask me to read it to them over and over. The Bible stories are easy for kids to understand, they are engaging, and the pictures are incredible.
If you are looking for a fun way to engage your kids in the Bible, I highly recommend this book.
Now I’ll be honest, since preschool started and we have been getting used to a new time schedule, it has been pushed to the side and our regular morning routine is a mess as we adjust. (I know. I do not want to lose site of what’s important, but I’m a real person, and right now, we are running out the door barely dressed to get to school on time.) This is not the only time I talk about God with my kids. There are many times throughout the day that He naturally comes up because, let’s face it, he’s pretty involved in every aspect of our lives. So we have meaningful conversations that often lead to questions and discussions.
Recently, one of these conversations went like this:
My son, “Mom, what do you think God’s body looks like?”
Me, “Well, God doesn’t really have a body like we do.”
My son, “You mean he’s just a big, giant head?”
So you can see, we have meaningful discussions that really get to the bottom of who God is. ?
As I have been seeking my own wisdom, I have come across many bible verses to teach kids who God is. I thought there might be some parents out there, feeling the pressure like I am, that could benefit from a list, too. So here it is!
Bible verses to teach kids who God is
1. 1 John 3:1
“See what love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is who we are!”
God loves you like a mother and a father loves you!
2. Luke 18:16
“But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
God loves you exactly the way you are.
3. John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
God can handle anything that comes your way.
4. Deuteronomy 1:30
“The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes.”
God goes before you and God will fight for you.
5. Ephesians 3:12
“In Him and through faith in Him we approach God with freedom and confidence.”
You can go right to Him.
6. 2 Corinthians 12:9
“But He said to me, “My Grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Your weaknesses are God’s strength.
7. Psalms 127:1
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”
Nothing can be accomplished without God.
8. Proverbs 30:5
“Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”
Take refuge in God, His words are true.
9. 1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
God forgives you when you make a bad choice, just ask Him.
10. Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
You do not need to worry.

These are great verses. My son always asks us about God and what Heaven is like. We’ve had some really great conversations about it.
That’s great! It’s so fun to hear their questions about God, isn’t it?
These are beautiful verses! Thank you for the list, I will absolutely love to share these with my boys once they are a bit older (and verbal)!

Great verses! Haha and I love how one of your kids asked if God is a giant head! I love talking to my kids about God!
Those conversations are the best aren’t they! Thanks for your comment!
